OBIT, Clark Co. Courier, Kahoka, MO, March 22, 1935: J. W. Harmon, an old and highly respected resident of Keokuk, died at his home, 1724 Oak St. at 5:40 Friday morning (Mar. 15), after a period of illness. The son of William and Sarah R. Harmon, he was born on Sep. 23, 1857, at a small farm west of the old Proudy Mound near Buena Vista. At the close of the Civil War he came to Keokuk, where he has resided since. For 32 yrs. he was employed at the Comstock Stove Works. He later farmed on the island at the mouth of the Des Moines river, but retired some 25 yrs. ago. He was a member of the Trinity M. E. Church, joining in early manhood. On Jan. 26, 1882, he was united in marriage with Mary L. Burgess, daughter of the Rev. John Burgess. Surviving him are 3 children, Charles A. Harmon and Mrs. C. O. Taylor of Keokuk and R. P. Harmon of Belle Feurche, S. D. There are also 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Harmon preceded him on Aug. 10, 1934. The funeral services were held from the Trinity M. E. Church Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
