NEWSPAPER CLIPPING: Windsor (IA), May 5, 1913 - James Homewood and Miss Elva Wickham were quietly married by Rev. C. M. Howe at West Union last Thursday and are now at home at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Homewood. This worthy young couple have the respect of a host of friends who unite in wishing them happiness.

History of Fayette Co, IA, 1996, p. 143: "James & Elva (Wickham) Homewood - James Thomas Homewood, son of Thomas George and Lucy Mae (Whitely) Homewood, was born. Aug. 27, 1890, in Fayette, IA. Genealogy records show his family originated from Kent County, England. He married Elva Wickham (1891-1985) on May 1, 1913. She was the daughter of William and Hattie Wickham. They were the parents of 8 children: Amy Mae Bruening, 1914-1978; Howard James, 1915-1919; Harriet Lucille, 1917-1918; Clifford James, 1919-1993; Robert Eugene, 1921-1986; Raymond Donald, 1925-1977; Charles Edwin, 1928; and Jerry Dale, 1933. Howard and Harriet died during the flu epidemic of 1918-1919. James and Elva farmed all their lives in the Hawkeye area, near Oak Lawn Cemetery (Smoketown). Jim had a love for horses. He enjoyed driving and working them in the fields. Jim died at his home May 7, 1960, following a stroke. Elva was a typical pioneer woman; she always had a large garden and did a lot of canning. She also raised chickens, ducks and geese. She was helpful to other mothers in the community when new babies were born. She was able to stay in her own home until the last year of her life. She died at the age of 93, April 11, 1985, of pneumonia at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union. Jim and Elva are buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery." (Obit submitted by Jerry D. Homewood.)
