Regimental History OHIO ONE HUNDRED and SEVENTY-SIXTH INFANTRY(One Year)
One Hundred and Seventy-sixth Infantry. - Col., Edwin C. Mason; Lieut.-Col., William Nesbitt; Maj., William F. Cummings.
This regiment was organized at Columbus, Sandusky, Wooster, Alliance, Camp Chase and Circleville, from Aug. 10 to Sept. 21, 1864 to serve for one year. As soon as the organization was completed the regiment was ordered to Nashville, Tenn., and assigned to the 2nd brigade, 4th division, 20th army corps. Soon after its arrival it was detailed to perform provost guard duty at Nashville. During the battle of Nashville it was in the works, but with the exception of a few companies under Maj. Cummings the regiment was not engaged. It was mustered out on June 14, 1865 in accordance with orders from the war department.

OFFICER'S CERTIFICATE OF DEATH OF SOLDIER, 20 Mar 1866: Nathan Wickham, while in the line of duty at or near Nashville, Tenn., contracted measels of which he died at Post Hospital No. 1, Nashville, Tenn on the 7 Jan 1865. The said soldier was at the time he contracted said disease doing Post duty in the city of Nashville, Tenn. That he died of pneumonia as a direct sequence resulting from measles. That said soldier was in good health at the time he entered service & so continued to about the day above written. Allen Floyd, Capt. Co. G., 176th Regiment, Infant. Vols.
