INFO FROM SHIRLEE DRUMMOND-HAY: Elisha Hattery Leach was given as a ward to Diana Ball and her husband William J. Leach when Solomon was only 2 years of age. Diana later adopted him legally. They apparently had done well for themselves in owning much properties. However, they had no children. I suspect that is the reason for Diana adopting Elisha. A descendant reports that his death record gives his mother's name as Sarah Jane Keairns and the father as Solomon Hattery, or Solomon Hattery-Leach.
