Lincoln (NE) Daily Star, Mar. 3, 1909: Murder Trial on at Tekamah, Neb., March 2 - The attorneys are selecting a jury to try Lincoln Farrens for the death of Lester Ball at Decatur on December 9 last. The trouble between the men started over a jug of whisky. At the inquest the story was told that Ball took the jug from the wagon of Mr. Farrens while crossing the river on the ferry. Farrens protested that the whisky was purchased for a man at Onawa. Ball did not return it but later in the day, while under the influence of liquor, he encountered Farrens. A quarrel ensued. Ball knocked Farrens off a high sidewalk. As soon as Farrens could discard his overcoat he fought back. The second time he knocked Ball down the man did not get up. He was carried to a doctor's office where he died from strangulation caused by the blood in his throat, according to the physician.
