INFO FROM GERALD WICKHAM, 1988: Ernest Gilmore "Gil" Wickham and Grace Myrtle Stipp were married the 2nd of Feb., 1902, in Webster City, Hamilton Co, IA. He was the youngest son of Bimuel R. and Eliza Millslagle Wickham, and like his older brothers, started to work on farms at a young age and continued after his marriage. Gil and Grace lived in Robertson,Hardin Co. until around 1918, when they moved to Iowa Falls. Gil worked for the C.R.I. & P. Railroad as a car inspector/repairman. It was during this time when the R.R. was on strike he went to IL and did carpenter work. In 1929 he was to suffer a stroke, paralyzing his left side. He regained the use of his legs and could walk with a cane, but never regained the use of his left arm. He was to spend the rest of his life in The Hardin Co. Care Facility. He and Grace were to have 12 children, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
INFO FROM SON GERALD WICKHAM: "I was born in 1923, the 10th of 12 children. My father had a stroke when I was six and left my mother to raise the family doing the housework and washings."
OBIT, July 30, 1946: Wickham Rites Here Monrday Afternoon - Funeral services for Gilmore WIckham, 66, were held at the Wood Funeral Chapel Monday afternoon with the Rev. Ella Sours officiating. He died Saturday morning. Burial was made in Union cemetery. He lived in Hardin county all his life with the exception of a few years at Jewell. He was born Oct. 25, 1879, a son of Bimuel and Eliza Wickham. His wife, the former Grace Stipp, died in March, 1941. He leaves one brother, J. F. Wickham, of Winfield; three daughters, Mrs. Sherrill Smith of Eldora, Mrs. Irvin Johnson of Latimer, and Ruth of Des Moines; three sons, Leslie, Donald and Gerald, all of Iowa Falls; and nine grandchildren.
