OBIT: The Enterprise, Altamont, NY, Friday, March 2, 1923: SOUTH BETHLEHEM - John P. Van Alstyne - Death again entered our community and took from us a highly esteemed resident, John P. Van Alstyne, after a lingering illness of three years, yet his death came as a shock to his many friends and relatives. He was 75 years of age. His wife passed away seven years ago. He is survived by eleven children, twenty five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. The body was placed in the vault of the Bethlehem Elmwood Cemetery by undertaker, William Caswell. His work on earth is o'er, His time is no more, May his sould rest in peace, In his heavenly home.
