Regimental History OHIO ONE HUNDRED and SEVENTY-SIXTH INFANTRY(One Year)
One Hundred and Seventy-sixth Infantry. - Col., Edwin C. Mason; Lieut.-Col., William Nesbitt; Maj., William F. Cummings.
This regiment was organized at Columbus, Sandusky, Wooster, Alliance, Camp Chase and Circleville, from Aug. 10 to Sept. 21, 1864 to serve for one year. As soon as the organization was completed the regiment was ordered to Nashville, Tenn., and assigned to the 2nd brigade, 4th division, 20th army corps. Soon after its arrival it was detailed to perform provost guard duty at Nashville. During the battle of Nashville it was in the works, but with the exception of a few companies under Maj. Cummings the regiment was not engaged. It was mustered out on June 14, 1865 in accordance with orders from the war department.

DEATH CERTIFICATE: Alexander Wickham, widowed, farmer, was b. Mar. 13, 1830 in OH, parents: Calvin Wickham who was b. unknown & Eliza Shirley who was b. unknown, d. June 7, 1916 in Noble Co, Center Twp,, OH, 86 yrs, 2 mo. 25, died of general debility and old age. Burial June 9, 1916 in East Union Cemetery. Informant was G. W. Wickham, Sarahsville, OH.

1941 LETTER FROM MRS. RUTH WICKHAM MILLER of Sarahsville, OH: "Calvin and Elizabeth Wickham was my grandparents, my father Alex Wickham was the oldest child he was borned in 1832". "My father - Alexander - wickham he maried Hulda Rachel wickham I have been told they was third cousins but i don't no. as i am the youngest of 10 children I don't no so much about our family alex as he always was called had 5 children anna, Sarah, Beckie Eldora and Rodd she died in girl-hood and my father volunteared and served in the civil war till the close then there was 5 more hannah George Inda William and myself Ruth. I Was born 1876. and was maried in 1896 the 16 of october to George Miller and we had 2 girls Blanche the oldest maried Monroe Fogle and had 4 children 3 Boys 1 girl - Roger Mildred Donald and George she has been dead 13 years and Ethel our youngest was borned in 1902. and she has 4 children 1 boy and 3 girls Ruth Lona(?) arthur Jr. and Vera she Maried a man by the name of arthur Murry she was maried in feb. 1918." 1941 LETTER FROM JAMES WILLIAM WICKHAM of Sarahsville, OH (son of Alex): "Alex Wickham was the son of Calvin Wickham. Calvin Wickham was the son of John Wickham. Calvin married Elizabeth Shirley." - - " Alex married Rachel H. Wickham, the daughter of Slathile and Rina Wickham. They had 3 children, James, Silas and Racheal. James married Mary King, they had 2 children, Alex and William. James was killed in the Civil War. Silas went away and we lost all trace of him. The last we heard of him, he was in Scioto County. Ohio. Rachel married Alex Wickham, the son of John Wickham, and they had 10 children 8 boys and 2 girls. Alex born March 13, 1832 Racheal September 10, 1833 Roda September 2, 1952 Ann April 5, 1855 Sarah March 19, 1957 Rebecca Jane April 25, 1859 Francis E. October 23, 1862 Hannah February 16, 1865 George W. November 14, 1867 India Mae May 18, 1870 William May 23, 1873 Ruth September 10, 1876 Roda died in girlhood. Ann married Artinis Simons. They had six children. Lily, Jennie, Mark, Lou, Nannie and Myrtle. Sarah married John Phillips. They had five children. Emma, Theadore, Archie,Alex and Grace. Rebecca married George Robbison. They had thirteen children. Minnie, Frank, Oscar, Racheal, John, Pluma, Chlo, Edna, Harley, George, Madge, Fae and Thelma. Francis married Isiac Gibson. They had two children. Matilda and Nellie. Both are dead. Hannah married Joseph Khune. They had ten children. John, Maggie, William, Cora, Nora, Clarence, Leonard, Audrey, Kermit and Anna. All are living. George married Allie Jeffers.
