MARGARET HAMON -
Margaret M. Harmon, 82, of Keokuk died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Born May 3, 1928, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of John and Anna Smith Helenthal. On Aug. 26, 1950, she married David L. Harmon in Keokuk. He preceded her in death.
In her early years, Mrs. Harmon worked at Huiskamp shoe factory and later was a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and was proud of being from "West K."
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She loved to bowl and was a past city champion. She enjoyed cats and had saved many strays. She loved her flower garden, which had been on the Keokuk Garden Club garden tour. Two years ago, she was the recipient of the Keokuk Pride Award.
Survivors include two sons, David M. Harmon of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joseph P. Harmon of Fort Madison; and seven grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center on Concert Street in Keokuk and a Christian Vigil Service will be at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Harmon will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Lathrop as celebrant. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Keokuk Garden Club.
