OBITUARY, Oskaloosa Herald (IA), Wed, Aug 14, 1985: Deep River - Bertha Allen, 80, of Deep River died Tuesday, Aug 13, 1985 at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn, Iowa. She was born July 19, 1905 west of Montezuma, the daughter of Mike and Rachel Fayer. She graduated from Montezuma high school and taught in rural schools for two years. On April 30, 1927 she was united in marriage with Orville Allen in Oskaloosa. They farmed near New Sharon for 30 years and near Deep River for 27 years. She was a member of the Deep River Linger Longer Club.
She is survived by two daughters: Wilma Ervin of Indianola; and Myrna Bond of Illinois; two sons: Arlen of Deep River and Ronald of Montezuma; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband who died in 1965; her parents; one brother: Eddie Fayer; one sister: Stella James; and one grandson. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Warren James officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation with family will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
