POWESHIEK HERITAGE, 1991: Warren Lloyd & Velma Revell James
Warren Lloyd James, son of Estella Fayer amd Benjamin Harrison James, was born 1920 December 22 in Union Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa.
Warren's great grandfather, Henry James (1818-1888), came from Kentucky (where he was born) to Iowa in 1848 to homestead a farm in Union, Poweshiek, Iowa. That farm remained in the James family 100 years.
Henry James was one of seven brothers, no sisters. He fathered seven sons, no daughters.
One of those sons was Arthur E. James (1860-1929), whose son was Benjamin Harrison James (1889-1978), father of Warren Lloyd James.
Warren's maternal great-grandfather, Michael Fayer I was born in Ireland.
Warren graduated 1938 from Montezuma High School, served in the Ninth Air Force Service Command 1942-1945 in the European Theater of Operation; farmed; was a 4-H leader and Extension Councilman. He was ordained to preach the Gospel in 1970. He pastored Baptist Churches at Confidence, Iowa, Rathbun Lake, Bricelyn, Minnesota, What Cheer, Iowa 1968-1985 and Montezuma, Iowa since 1985.
In 1942 in Fresno, California, Warren L. James and Velma Revell, daughter of Ethel Hulbert and Robert Revell, were married.
Velma Revell was born 1920 at Iowa Center, Story, Iowa; graduated Grinnell High School and Normal Training; taught in Poweshiek Rural Schools; was active in 4-H, Family Living, charter member of Montezuma Garden Club and Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society. She was an interviewer for Gallup Poll. Velma teaches basic family history research through Iowa Valley Continuing Education.
Velma is of French, Welch, and Norwegian descent. Her earliest known Revell ancestor in America was Elijah Revell in Nash County, North Carolina in early 1700's. Her great-great-grandfather, Elijah Hammond Revell, was a Baptist minister in North Carolina and Kentucky. He was father to sixteen children born in two marriages.
