OBIT: Mrs. W. L. Burres died Friday morning, June 21, 1912 at the family home after a protracted illness. Rachel Wickham was born in Monroe Co., OH. April 11, 1839. The family came to Johnson Co., IA. in 1853 and a few years later removed to Steamboat Rock, Hardin Co., where she grew to womanhood. In September 1862, she married A. J. Hadden of the same place. Her husband soon after enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War and in which service he died in 1865. The widow moved to Keithsberg, Illinois and engaged in the millinery business. October 1, 1879, she was married to W. L. Burres at Burlington, Ia. They came to Hampton the same year. To this union was born one daughter, Edna, who with a niece, Rachel Burres, who has been a member of the family since five years old, survive the deceased. Besides these are left to mourn, William O. Wickham, of Eagle City, Ia., J. D. Wickham of Lyle Kansas (Jacob Douglas), Winfield S. Wickham, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, Mrs. Catherine Hartman of Iowa Falls, Iowa, sisters and brothers of the deceased, all of whom were present at the funeral except J. D. Wickham of Kansas.
