MACPHERSON FAMILY - SOME OF THE DESCENDANTS OF ADAM MCPHERSON, p. 53:
Nancy Wickham, the oldest child of Asahel and Catherine taught school three and a half miles from Steamboat Rock, in 1851. School began in April and went thru July. She received $3.00 a week for this work, along with her room and board. As was customary at this time, she probably boarded around with the parents of her school children. Her school records show that she was a well educated person.
