OBIT: Zanesville Times Recorder, Dec 4, 2006:
CALDWELL - Wilfred E. "Shine" Rayner, age 77, of Ava, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 1, 2006, at Summit Acres Health Care Center in Caldwell.

He was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Gaysport, Ohio, a son of the late Martin Luther "Boots" and Bessie Faye Shattuck Rayner. He grew up in his father's business, Rayner's Garage, and had, since his father's death in 1964, operated it along with his wife Evelyn. Their son Bryan has grown up in the business and will be running the garage. He was a Protestant by faith and had attended the Ava United Methodist and Ava Free Methodist churches.

Shine proudly wore his blue uniform serving friends as well as strangers both near and far. He was always on call to help at the time of an accident or breakdown. Anytime, day, night or holiday; blazing heat or freezing cold, Shine was dedicated to his work. He prided himself on treating people fairly and truly loved his calling. Shine enjoyed his card playing buddies, the Sunday morning breakfast bunch and vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains. He loved country, bluegrass and old time gospel music. His four grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many dear relatives and friends. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Bryan Rayner, whom he married July 8, 1950; one daughter, Darla (John) Wheeler of Ava; one son, Bryan (Theresa) Rayner of Ava; one sister, Betty (William) Phelps of Canton; four wonderful grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at McVay-Perkins funeral Home in Caldwell, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, with Pastor Bryan Rice and Pastor Arthur Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Halley's Ridge Cemetery.
