OBIT, Dec 12, 1937: Henry Fowler, son of James and Charlotte Fowler was born May 29, 1864 and passed away at his home in Mechanicsville on Dec. 12, 1937 at the age of 73 yrs, 7 mos, 15 days. He was one of a family of three children and also had two half brother and 3 half sisters.
On Jan 1st 1889 he was united in marriage to Allie Mae Wickham and to this union was born six children, two of whom preceded him in death - Otis at 8 mos. and Clarence who was 29 years old. He was engaged in active farming all his life until about four years ago when his health forced him to retire.
He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, four daughters, Mrs. Iva Herbst and Mrs. Bertha McCullough of Lisbon, Mrs. Cora Bailey and Mrs. Emma Batchelor of Mechanicsville and ten grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Rose Wickham and one half-sister, Mrs. Phoebe Bean, both of Cedar Rapids and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed as he was a devoted husband and father and a loyal neighbor, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand in time of need.
One by one earth's ties are broken as we see our love decay, And the hopes so fondly cherished brighten but to pass away. One by one our hopes grow brighter as we near the shining shore, For we know across the river wait the loved ones gone before.
Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Baltz of Lisbon officiating and interment was made in the Wallick cemetery.
