OBIT - The Ottumwa Courier, May 13, 2005: FARSON - Victor Lyle Sauer died May 6, 2005, in Lake Forest, Illinois at the age of 76. The cause of death was lung cancer. He was born December 6, 1928 on his father's farm near Farson, Iowa, the second child of Harry and Anna Hagen Sauer. He attended Competine Township High School at Farson and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1951. He received several professional degrees including a Juris Doctorate in law (JD), as well as a CPCU, CLU and CHFC awarded for advanced work in insurance underwriting. Mr. Sauer spent much of his life working in the insurance industry. He was employed for many years by the United States Fidelity and Guaranty (USF&G) Company serving at offices located in Waterloo, Iowa, Quincy, Illinois, Baltimore, Maryland and St. Louis, Missouri. He also worked for the Ohio Casualty Insurance company in Hamilton, Ohio from 1960-64. In 1965 he founded and wrote The Sauer Investment Report, a monthly newsletter providing information and advice on stock and security markets to a national audience of subscribers. In 1974 he became Senior Vice President of Shand Morahan and The Evanston Group, an international firm located in Evanston, Illinois where he served as an officer until his retirement. Following retirement he was a much sought after private consultant reviewing liability claims for private industry. Mr. Sauer is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Joyce Sanchez Sauer, formerly of Martinsburg, Iowa; a daughter, Debra Lynn Mathison and her husband Larry of Santa Ana, California; a son, Dr. Mark Victor Sauer and his wife Lynda of Saddle River, New Jersey; a brother, Arlo Leroy Sauer of Hedrick, Iowa; a sister, Carol Jean White of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren, Julie, Christopher, Jeffery and Emily Sauer and Michael Mathison; and his mother-in-law, Mary Sanchez. Cremation has been accorded and no services are planned. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
