OBIT: The Hawkeye (Burlington, IA), Feb. 14, 2004: Mary J. Griffin, 83, of Iowa City, formerly of Columbus Junction, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Born April 1, 1920, in Iowa City, she was the daughter of Leonard and Mabel Wickham Fuhrmeister. In 1947, she married William J. Hanft in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 1967. On Nov. 29, 1967, she married Donald E. Griffin in Columbus Junction. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Griffin helped her first husband operate a cook house in the carnival business for 26 years, and she owned and operated D & H Produce in Fredonia for 26 years. She had been a resident of the Columbus Junction area since 1947. She was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul Fuhrmeister of Iowa City and Leonard Fuhrmeister of Amana. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
The funeral for Mrs. Griffin will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Stacy\endash Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.
