OBIT: The Sun, San Bernardino, CA: Maxine Russell Scheuermann, 87, of Whittier went to the Lord on December 23, 2008 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease and its complications. Maxine was born in Ottawa, Kansas on February 16th, 1921. She grew up in Denver and was a graduate of Colorado Women's College. Maxine was a skilled secretary and utilized her skills with the Public Service Company of Colorado and the Chicago Tribune before coming to Whittier in 1955. In Whittier, she worked for the South Whittier School District as a school secretary for more than 25 years where she was given the honor of becoming a lifetime member of the PTA. Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Whittier for many years and was active in the M&M/Challengers class. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and in early years The Junior Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a world traveler. Maxine is survived by her husband, Bill of 59 years, daughter, Julie of Alta Loma, CA, son John, daughter-in-law Lee and grandchildren, Elise and James of Montecito, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at 1pm at the First United Methodist Church of Whittier located at 13222 Bailey St., Whittier. A reception will follow. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's association or the YMCA of Greater Whittier.
