OBIT: The Cedar Rapids Gazette (IA), Sat. June 5, 1988: Loran Harry Lain, Sr., 71, of 1006 Center Point Rd. NE, died Thursday in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Born July 2, 1916, at Cedar Rapids, he married Evely Melsha on Aug. 5, 1942, at Norfolk, Va. The couple resided at Coerur d'Alene, Idaho from 1945 to 1948. For 27 years, Mr. Lain worked for Penick and Ford Co., retiring in 1977. He was a member of Federation of Grain Millers Local No. 100, American Legion Hanford Post 5, VFW Post 788. Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge No. 62 and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2272 and a World War II Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Loran Jr. and Lowell; and his mother, Emma Matus, all of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Turner Chapel East, by the Rev. LeRoy Bauman. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Hanford Post 5. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday in the chapel. The casket will be closed prior to the service and remain closed.
