OBIT: The Hawk Eye, Burlington, IA , May 5, 2007: Ova L. Garrels Gipple, 76, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of the Troy area, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident west of Danville.
Born Aug. 21, 1930, in rural Troy, she was the daughter of Bernard and Helen Good. On Sept. 24, 1950, she married DeWayne Richard Garrels. He died May 1, 1978, in Burlington. On May 20, 1997, she married Robert Eugene Gipple in Mount Pleasant. He died Nov. 9, 2005.
Mrs. Gipple was a longtime bookkeeper and business manager of Garrels Elevator in Mount Pleasant and bookkeeper for Gabeline Elevator in Yarmouth. For several years, she performed secretarial duties at Tri\endash County Mental Health. She was active at First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women, serving on several committees. She was a member of the former Eastern Star Chapter in Mount Union, TTT Chapter U of Mount Union, and Sweet Adelines International. She loved to raise flowers, watch birds and collect bird figurines.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Holtgrewe of Altoona and Janette Ryan\endash Busch of Iowa City; one son, Gerald E. Garrels of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weir and Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Gipple will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
