OBIT: Cedar Rapids Gazette, Oct. 16, 2008: CEDAR RAPIDS - Gerald D. "Jerry" Wickham, 70, of 618 32nd St. NE, died of a sudden heart attack Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in Bethel, Maine. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John Louk. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathy; two daughters, Kyla (Matthew) Wickham Burrier and grandchildren, Elena, Lila and Max, and Alyssa (Jeremy) Hague, and grandsons, Linden and Carver, all of Cedar Rapids; a special niece, Bernice Stoffel of Eglin AFB, Fla.; and adopted grandchildren, Courtney and Jacob; his twin sister, Jean Wickham of Texas; a half brother, Kenneth (Eleanor) Booth of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Delores Booth of Oxford; several nieces and nephews; his beloved in-laws; and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Vern Wickham; his half brothers, Chuck, Bud, Don and Arthur Booth; and his half sisters, Bernadean Shreeves, Elva Jean McPherson and Mary Booth. Jerry was born July 19, 1938, the son of Raymond and Florence (Branninger) Wickham, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A member of the first graduating class from Washington High School in 1958, he served in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on the S.S. Bremmerton out of San Francisco. On Oct. 5, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kathaleen Hainey in Wapello, Iowa. A self-taught welder, Jerry enjoyed woodworking, Western novels and loved to putz and tinker in the yard and garage. He looked forward to delivering the Tidbits Paper on Friday mornings. He also loved fishing and anticipated his annual Boundary Water Trip. Most of all, "Papa J" treasured spending time with his grandchildren. Jerry was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Salem United Methodist Men's Group, Walk to Emmaus and the "Class of 58." Memorials may be made to the Salem Flood Fund in memory of Jerry.
