Eleanore Wakefield, 94, of Ladysmith died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the Rusk County Memorial Nursing Home.
Eleanore was born in Ladysmith on March 23, 1916, to Lester Guthrie and Charlotte Gundersen Guthrie. She was married to Clarence Wakefield on Oct. 24, 1934.
Eleanore was active in the Faith United Methodist Church of Ladysmith. She served in the Homemakers Club and as a 4-H leader. She also collected for the Cancer Society and the Salvation Army.
She loved living in the community of Ladysmith. It was, "The best place there is to live", in her words. Important to her was her home, yard, garden, flowers, sewing, canning, and baking so she could serve family, friends and church by her cooking and entertaining.
She is survived by her son George Wakefield of Daytona Beach, Fla.; her daughter Clarice Gorsegner of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; her grandchildren Marcy Gorsegner Likens of Island Lake, Ill., Rob Gorsegner of Austin, Texas, Stacey Wakefield of Charlotte, N.C., Lynn Wakefield Berchoff of Moorsville, N.C., and Janel Wakefield Endres of Huntersville, N.C..; her great-grandchildren Katie Likens Campagna of Elgin, Ill., Amber Likens Ronnfeldt of Platteville, Wis., Adam Stecks of Rolling Meadows, Ill., Owen Wakefield of Charlotte, N.C., Aaron Wakefield of Charlotte, N.C.; Troy Berchoff of Moorsville N.C., and Joseph Endres of Huntersville, N.C.; her great-great-grandchildren Serena Stecks of Rolling Meadows, Ill., Rowan Stecks of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; and her brother Alan Guthrie of San Jose, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; her granddaughter Lori Gorsegner Stecks; her brother Harold Guthrie; and her sisters Lorraine Altieri and Evelyn Lytle.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Ladysmith. Visitation will be at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith on Thursday, Aug. 5, 4-8 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. at the church on Fri. Burial will be in Cleveland, Minn., on Saturday, Aug. 7.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
