General Notes: ANCESTRY.COM, Public Members Stories: Lloyd while living in Oskaloosa, Iowa at the age of 7,1937 was reported lost, actually he was out rounding up votes and opinions for FDR. The Des Moines Register took pictures and did a small write up. His Father died in 1940, and the family moved to Ottumwa, IA. In high school he played football until he was no longer eligible. In 1949 he joined the Navy, was sent to San Diego, CA then to Hawaii where he was assigned to a submarine. He received his GED at Roosevelt High and played on the SubPac football team on base. After he finished his tour and discharged he was offered a scholarship at the University of Old Miss in 1950. From there he transferred to the U of Iowa playing right guard and met Mary Savidge 10-30-1950. They were married 12 Jan 1951. They left the Univ. in 1953 and entered the world as a traveling salesman. The rest is in a letter to the children written in Jan,1976 in Richmond, MN 25 years later. Lloyd married Mary SAVIDGE on 12 Jan 1951 in Wapello Co, IA.1 |
