OBIT: Chillicothe Gazette, May 29, 2007: Thelma O. Speakman, 84, went to be with the Lord at her home in Whisler on May 26, 2007. She was born January 11, 1923, in Ross County, to the late Luther and LuLu Congrove Gilpen. On August 4, 1938, she married Melvin "Doc" Speakman who preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Lynn Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Community Church Cemetery. Friends may call at Hill's Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Surviving are her son, Pete Speakman, Whisler; sons and daughters-in-law, Herb (Pat) Speakman, Laurelville and Joe (Marcia) Speakman, Whisler: daughter and son-in-law, Judy (Frank) Raymond, Laurelville; grandchildren: Danny, Derick, Tammie, Susan, Connie, Debbie, Cindy, Shanna, Angie, Becky, Mike, Brian, Kirby, and Krystal; 12 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Herb (Goldie) Gilpen, Laurelville, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Laten Hoey; a son, Melvin "Windy" Speakman; sisters, Bernice Speakman and Ester Gilpen,
Thelma was a retiree of the Circleville Lamp Plant, and a long time resident of the Whisler community. She loved spending time with her family. Thelma will be greatly missed by her family members, neighbors, and many friends.
Thelma married Melvin "Doc" SPEAKMAN on 4 Aug 1938 in OH.1 (Melvin "Doc" SPEAKMAN was born on 16 Oct 1914 in OH 3 and died on 25 Jul 1981 in Newark, Licking Co, OH 4.)
