OBIT: Parsons Sun, Dec 14, 2003: Fallon, Nev. - Marion F. Jonte Sr., 87, of Fallon, a former resident of Parsons, died at 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon. He had been in failing health.
He was born June 22, 1916, in Broken Bow, Neb., to George and Myrtle (Wickham) Jonte. As a young boy, he moved to Parsons with his family in a covered wagon. He attended schools in Parsons. During World War II, he served as a carpenter's mate second class in the United States Navy and was in the Pacific Theater during the landing on Iwo Jima. He received his discharge Dec. 1, 1945.
He married Doris W. Marlow on Sept. 10, 1938, in Parsons. After World War II, they lived in Monte Vista, Colo., from 1946 to 1955; Parsons from 1955 to 1959; Dodge City from 1959 to 1963; Monte Vista from 1963 to 1973; and Canon City, Colo., from 1973 to 1988. In 1988, they returned to Parsons and resided at 2331 Stevens. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 2002. He then moved to Fallon to be near his son.
He was a union carpenter and had just received his 60-year union card. When he retired, he had the oldest continuous carpenter's union card in the state of Colorado. He attended Church of the Nazarene in Parsons. He was a member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons; the Last Squad Club of World War II; a 57-year member of the American Legion Post No. 53 in Monte Vista; Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Monte Vista; and the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 0 in Canon City.
Survivors include one son, Marion F. "Pete" Jonte Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Fallon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, John P. Jonte of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kay Monroe, in 1986, two brothers and six sisters.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nazarene in Parsons with the Rev. Mark Koch officiating. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery with military honors by Brown-Bishop VFW Post No. 704. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials to Church of the Nazarene for college scholarships may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 405 Main, Parsons.

OBIT: The Reno Gazette-Journal, Dec 14, 2003: Marion Francis Jonte, Sr. died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Churchill Community Hospital. Marion was a Union Carpenter and he spent 60 years in the trade, of which he was very proud. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Masonic and Odd Fellows, all in Monte Vista, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris Winfred Jonte; and daughter Sharon Kay Monroe. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Marion, Jr. and Patty Jonte of Fallon; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 brother.
There will be a visitation Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at The Gardens Funeral Home in Fallon. Services will be held in Parsons, Kansas with interment to be at the East Bethany Cemetery in Parsons. Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home, 2949 Austin Highway. 775-423-8928.
