OBIT: Sioux CIty Journal, Sept. 24, 2004: Minnie M. Steele, 85, of Sioux City died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness. The body was cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (formerly Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel), with the Rev. Terry Gilmore officiating. There will be no visitation.
Minnie M. Steele was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Ponca, Neb., the daughter of Thomas and Marilyn (Kneeland) Longshore. Minnie's family lived in southern Minnesota before coming to Sioux City. Minnie attended Sioux City schools. She married Elmer D. Steele in 1934. He died Sept. 25, 1976, in Sioux City. She worked for Armour & Co. for 16 years, Wimmers in West Point, Neb. and then Floyd Valley Packing Co. in Sioux City. She was of the Pentecostal religion. Minnie dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed fishing and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Steele and his wife, Rachel, and Elmer Steele and his wife, Carole, all of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harry, Floyd and Harold; three sisters, Alice, Vera and Grace and two great-grandsons, Benjamin Martin and Michael Jay Minter.
