Mr. House was born in Belle Plaine, IA, Sept. 25, 1925; he moved to Oregon in 1940. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had been employed as a union representative. Mr. House was instrumental in organizing public employees in Oregon by organizing firefighters in Oregon City, as a lobbyist for the AFL-CIO, and most recently as a business manager of municipal employees, as well as members of the Port of Portland and the Washington Park Zoo.
In 1946 he married his first wife, Betty Wickham. In 1972 he married his second wife, Judy Billerbeck. Mr. House is survived by his wife, Judith House of Portland; a son, Steven House of Oregon City; a daughter, Linda Gustafson of Vancouver, WA; a brother, Robert House of San Diego, CA; four sisters, Lola Gambell of Mulino, Rosa Fuller of Longview, WA, and Ardath Bope and Margaret Fuller, both of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Calwell's Colonial Mortuary. Burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mr. House's request was that remembrances be donated to charities that help the homeless.
