Lawrence "Larry" Kness, 73, of Iowa Falls, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services for Larry Kness will be 10:00 Tuesday, September 26, 2000, at the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, with burial at Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. There will be no visitation. The Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Lawrence Kness was born July 31, 1927, at Iowa Falls, Iowa the son of George Owen and Alice Noreen "Mann" Kness. He attend Iowa Falls Community Schools leaving high school to join the United States Navy during World War II. After serving his country he later received his High School G. E. D. On February 1, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ruth Francis Wickham at Eldora, Iowa. Larry was employed as a clerk with the Rock Island Railroad and later the Northwestern Railroad. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls and the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post # 188, Iowa Falls. Larry Kness is survived by his wife of 50 years: Ruth Kness of Iowa Falls; two sons: Stephen L. Kness and wife Arlys of Manchester, Iowa; George G. Kness of Ames, Iowa; two daughters: Debbie S. Lettow and husband Gary of Ames, Iowa; Mary E. Samson and husband Robert of San Jose, California; six grandchildren: Matthew Kness, Heather Kness, Jessica Kness all of Manchester, Iowa; Andrew Lettow of Ames, Iowa; Melissa and Michael Samson of San Jose,California; and one great-grandchild: Damien Dague of Earlville, Iowa, and one brother: Warren Kness and wife Betty of Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Alice Kness; and an infant brother.
