bullet  General Notes:

Earliest Settlers of Western Frederick-Eastern Hampshire Counties in Virginia, Grace Kelso Garner, compiler, p. 176: "Andrew Millslagle, son of George and Catherine Loy Millslagle was born in Hampshire County, Virginia in 1784, grew to manhood there, married there, the name of his first wife unknown. By 1810 a son and a daughter had been born to the couple. Andrew moved to Morgan Co, Ohio soon after this and he served there in the War of 1812, serving in Capt. George Richardson's company from August 31, 1813 until December 1, 1913. The 1820 census for Noble Twp, Morgan County shows that Andrew and ____ Millslagle now have a daughter between 10 and 16, a daughter under 10 and two sons under 10. These children were Samuel - Andrew - Rachel and Nancy. The wife of Andrew and mother of these four died sometime after 1820. I have often wondered if this wife could have been a daughter of Mathew Wickham who was in Hampshire County, Virginia on the list of Levi Ashbrook in 1782 and on the list of Okey Johnson in 1784. Did Andrew and his family spend some years in New York State after 1820 and before the 1840 census? Andrew, back in Morgan County, Ohio in August of 1839, for on the 6th of that month he is married by Elder Joseph E. Smith to Sarah Keith. At this point I wish to say "thank-you" to Mr. Don Millslagle of Des Moines, Iowa for his good help and family records. By his marriage to Sarah Keith three more children are born to Andrew Millslagle, two daughters, Eliza and Jane born in Ohio, and Peter Andrew born in Ohio. Then two daughters of the first marriage, Rachel and Nancy, one born about 1808 and the other born about 1812 as well as the son Samuel are adult at the time of the second marriage, so the daughters become lost to us geneologically, since they are but marks on the census records."
