OBIT, Douglas Budget, Nov. 1, 2003: Internment for Donald Edison Walton, 87, will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Fort Snelling, Minn. Mr. Walton died Oct. 26, 2003, at Michael Manor in Douglas. He was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Geddes, S.D., to Charles W. and June Althea (Larson) Walton. He was reared and educated in various Minnesota towns. He worked for the Civil Conservation Corps for a time. On June 30, 1942, Mr. Walton entered the Army. He was discharged on Oct. 27, 1945. He was involved in the Normandy Invasion, D-Day plus-10, and then continued through northern France. He received the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He was in the 95th Division and Red Ball Express. Following his discharge he returned to Minnesota. He went to work as an over-the-road truck driver, retiring in 1974. Mr. Walton is survived by four brothers, Les Walton of Minneapolis, Minn., Chuck Walton and John Walton of Stuart, Fla., and Fred Walton of Glendo; sister Mary Wilson of Redding, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eleanor Charlotte Walton on April 10, 1989; brother Wes Walton; and sisters Neva Brafford and Jane Stephany.
