FIND A GRAVE:
OBIT - CHERRY VALLEY \emdash Roger L. Kelley, 74, passed away Friday, April 30, 2004, at the home of his cousin Robert and Jean Schermerhorn, in Cherry Valley.
He was born June 22, 1929, in Oneonta, the son of Claude and Grace (Schermerhorn) Kelley.
Roger worked on the family farm, "Lakeview Farm," with his brother, Lavern, and later with his nephew, Brian Schermerhorn.
Roger took pride in his collection of John Deere tractors. He enjoyed participating in the Roseboom Tractor Show.
He frequently walked on his farmland with family and friends. On these walks, Roger shared many family stories. It was also a family tradition to choose Christmas trees on his farm.
Roger is survived by his aunt, Esther Rohland of Schenectady; cousins, Robert and Jean Schermerhorn of Cherry Valley, Harold and Harriet Schermerhorn of Floral City, Fla., Chris and Gina Schermerhorn and family of Deansboro, and Brian Schermerhorn of Cherry Valley; and special friends, Bill and Barbara Sanders of Oneonta, and Jack and Norma Van Buren of Roseboom; as well as his friends and neighbors.
Roger was predeceased by his brother, C. Lavern Kelley.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker, pastor of the West End Community Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. until service time.
Contributions in Roger's memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
The family thanks the Hospice staff for their compassionate care.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta.
